Luc

Luc Lebrun—a budding tenor in the ’70s studying voice both privately and at Ottawa U—decided in his twenties that piano was his passion. He studied piano intermittently with the late Sandra Coupal and more recently with Jenny Regehr. Preparing recently for his RCM Grade 10 exam, he decided to withdraw and stop lessons altogether, while continuing to explore the piano literature. Luc now finds a lot of guidance from instructors on YouTube and other online sites, including Josh Wright (https://www.joshwrightpiano.com), who offers a wealth of free tutorials and information.

As of early 2022, Luc is preparing several works by Chopin, such as the Polonaise in A flat Op 53, Fantaisie Impromptu in C# minor, and Nocturne #1 in B flat minor Op 9.

Luc is retiring from the public service this year and looks forward to very long piano practice sessions (dreaded by both his wife and daughter 😉) as he learns and expands into further repertoire. As a continuing member of the Ottawa Piano Group since its inception, he also looks forward to sharing and meeting with the group once in-person sessions resume.

Luc's piano is a 1959 satin ebony Mason and Risch grand.
