Lynda

Lynda was given a wonderful gift when a teacher named Ann Archibald offered group piano lessons at her elementary school and then private lessons. From the age of 8 to 14 Lynda continued studying and taking Royal Conservatory exams until she failed her Grade X exam.

In a teenage rebellion, she stopped piano lessons and registered for violin at her high school. When she joined the Foreign Service in 1972, she found that the violin and piano offered an entree into the societies of England, Trinidad and Tobago and Hong Kong, including participation in an opera in Trinidad where she played second violin in the orchestra and her husband was featured in the chorus, and playing the Messiah in a hot and humid Hong Kong.

After having her baby in 1989, she decided to take her Grade X exam for the second time and passed. Since then, she has continued since her retirement in 2002 to play the piano in retirement homes and at a hospice. She also for a few years was a member of the Ottawa Fiddle Ensemble. In  2009, she began studying the harp and now belongs to a group of 4 harpers called Celtic Knot. She is a regular at CAMMAC (Canadian Amateur Musicians) summer camp since the late 1970s.

In 2013 she was introduced to the Ottawa Piano Group and has returned to her first love - the piano. She enjoys the collegial atmosphere and support of her new piano friends so much that she agreed to help administer the group.  Lynda feels so blessed to have music in her life and to be able to share it with others.
